Help shape BC's health care system

Quote: "Health care providers and government may be so focused on their own part of the system that they lose sight of the big picture. Through the Patient Voices Network, patients provide feedback and the providers and policy makers are listening!" By Brain, Patient Voices Network Patient Partner.

As an activated patient, you can be matched with opportunities to participate in health care transformation – and you will have access to a range of skill-building and networking opportunities to support you.

Our intake process ensures we match you with the most suitable opportunities. The steps are as follows:

  1. Register online

Complete our online registration form to indicate your interest in attending the one-day orientation and becoming an activated patient. The form provides us with your contact details and some information about your background and interests.

  2. Telephone interview

You’ll participate in an informal conversation to help Network staff learn more about you. This is also a chance for you to ask questions and learn more about the Network.

  3. Attend an orientation

The PVN hosts one-day sessions for new members which provide an in-depth introduction to the Patient Voices Network, an introduction to the principles of public participation, and an opportunity to connect with other patients. Orientation sessions are held in different BC communities throughout the year, and following your intake call, you will be notified of the next orientation in your area.

After the orientation, patients will begin receiving information about available placements. Patients are encouraged to volunteer for opportunities that best fit their interests, experiences and availability. These opportunities may include:

Advisory committees
A group of people who meet to provide recommendations and accomplish specific tasks.
Focus groups
A form of consultation where a group of people are asked about their perceptions, opinions, and experiences on a specific topic.
Improvement teams
Teams created to improve services and/or processes. This goes beyond finding temporary fixes, and seeks to makes things better by understanding the root causes behind process difficulties.
Conferences and forums
Large meetings where invited guests share experiences and contribute to discussions. Patients may contribute as a presenter or guest, depending on the placement.
Other health care projects
Each experience is unique. As the Network grows, new opportunities are being identified and shared with patients.
