Information Collection

Any personal information that you voluntarily provide is collected and maintained in compliance with the British Columbia Personal Information Privacy Act. Personal information collected is used only for the purpose(s) for which it was collected, and the Impact BC does not disclose this information to other organizations or individuals, except as authorized by law.

Log files/Analytics

When you visit our website the server automatically collects a limited amount of information essential to the efficient operation of the site. These web log files help us determine the areas of our website that are being viewed the most and provide us with statistical reports that are used to help us improve our site. The following information about a visitor is collected:

  • Internet Protocol (IP) address of your computer
  • The type of browser used (e.g. Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Safari)
  • Computer's operating system (e.g. Microsoft Windows 7, Vista or XP Pro)
  • Referral Site (the site you came from when you entered our site)
  • The date and time of your visit

Subscription and Registration

In order to subscribe to our newsletters or event updates, a user must provide at least their name and email address. In certain circumstances we also collect demographic information (such as gender, race, age bracket, occupation). This is optional but encouraged so that we can provide better services and a more personalized experience to our users.

If you wish to participate in forums and/or e-learning courses, a user must complete a simple registration process creating an account using an email and password. This password is encrypted and only available to the user who creates it.

Cookies

A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer tied to information about the user. We use session ID cookies in authenticated areas to allow you to proceed through many pages quickly and easily without having to login to each new page you visit. A session cookie only lasts for the duration of a user’s visit and will expire if a user closes his/her browser, or if a user’s session times out through inactivity. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site.

Sharing and Use of Information

Communications from the Site(s)

Information provided by you through our sites will only be used for

  1. The purposes for which it was collected – information a user subscribed to receive (e.g. newsletters, event updates).
  2. Surveys and Polls – periodically we run anonymous surveys and polls for the purposes of monitoring and improvement. Though we may use a third party provider to conduct these surveys, they do not collect any personally identifiable information and are entirely optional.
  3. Additional Offerings – users will occasionally receive emails containing information about other related services that might be of interest.
  4. Service Interruption Announcements – on a rare occasion we may have to run maintenance or upgrades on our sites. If there is a planned change or disruption in service users will be notified.

Sharing

  1. Legal Disclaimer - ImpactBC will not disclose personally identifiable information to any third party except where required by law.
  2. Aggregate Information - We share aggregated demographic information with our partners however this is not linked to any personally identifiable information.
  3. Organizational Changes - In the event ImpactBC goes through a business transition, such as a merger, or acquisition by another company, or selling a portion of its assets, users' personal information will, in most instances, be part of the assets transferred. Users will be notified as required by applicable privacy laws.

Opt Out/Unsubscribe/Correct/Update

Users who do not wish to receive any further communications can unsubscribe by clicking the link provided at the bottom of all informational emails. Account users can delete their account by contacting us directly using the information below.

External Content

ImpactBC websites contain links to external sites and documents. We are not responsible for the content or the information collected on these sites and would encourage all our users to be aware of and comply with each third party privacy policy.

Data Protection

All of your information is stored on secure and protected servers at our hosting provider or on our servers. The hosting company does not have access to your information and is restricted in our offices to just those employees who require the information to provide services to you.

Notification of Changes

If any aspects of this privacy policy are changed, we will post those changes on this page, and other appropriate areas of the sites, so that our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If, however, we are going to use your personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection we will notify you via email giving you the choice to opt out.
